Beach Street Bridge rehabilitation to begin Aug. 13 in Rockaway Borough
ROCKAWAY BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — Rehabilitation of the Beach Street Bridge over the Rockaway River is scheduled to begin on or about Thursday, Aug. 13, requiring the closure of Beach Street to through traffic for approximately three months.
Construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, weather permitting.
During the project, motorists will be detoured approximately 1.75 miles via East Main Street, Jackson Avenue, Union Street and Stickle Avenue. Drivers are advised to use caution, expect delays and plan alternate routes.
The existing bridge, a single-span steel girder structure built in 1970, remains structurally sound, but its concrete driving surface has deteriorated over time. According to Morris County, repeated patching has failed to prevent recurring potholes, making replacement of the bridge deck the most practical and cost-effective solution to extend the structure’s service life.
The project also includes sandblasting and repainting the bridge’s structural steel girders to help protect the bridge for decades to come.
The $1,268,008 project is being completed by Colonnelli Brothers Inc. of Hackensack under contract with Morris County.
