Bill to allow preserved farms to host special occasions signed into law

NEW JERSEY – Bipartisan legislation sponsored by Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-26) and Senator James Beach (D-06) to give preserved farms more flexibility in hosting special occasion events, while still prioritizing agricultural use of the land, was signed into law by Governor Murphy.

Under the proposed legislation, farms would be permitted to use recently constructed permanent structures for special events as long as the total event revenues in a calendar year does not exceed 10% of the farm’s total revenue.

“Farmers should have the opportunity to generate additional income from their property, especially when it’s done in a way that does not jeopardize the primary use of the land for agriculture,” said Pennacchio. “With the Governor’s signature, this law will strike the right balance between supporting our farmers and protecting the integrity of preserved farmland.”
