NEW JERSEY – Senator Robert Singer (R-30) released the following statement after S-1890 was advanced by the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee:
“For too long New Jerseyans have had to worry about the legitimacy of their contractor. This bill is another step in the right direction to give us all the confidence to make the decisions that best improve our quality of life,” said Sen. Singer. “By increasing transparency and setting a clear standard for contractors, we can greatly improve consumer protections and give the people of New Jersey the peace of mind they deserve.”
- Repeal the current law on the regulation of home improvement and home elevation contractors and establishes the New Jersey State Board of Home Improvement and Home Elevation Contractors as the regulating body of these contractors.
- Create a licensure process for home improvement and home elevation contractors in New Jersey.
- Award a license to individuals who have been registered as a home improvement or home elevation contractor for at least five years or has five years of experience providing these services upon expiration of their registration.
