Bipartisan House group urges Senate leaders to include lawmakers in talks on expiring ACA tax credits

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A bipartisan coalition of 32 House members is urging Senate leadership to include representatives in negotiations ahead of a promised December vote to address the looming expiration of Affordable Care Act premium tax credits.

In a letter sent Friday, Nov. 14, to Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, the group pressed for direct involvement from both chambers as lawmakers seek a solution to prevent dramatic increases in health insurance costs for millions of Americans.

“Bipartisan engagement across both chambers will be essential to crafting a health care proposal that can pass and be signed into law,” the Members wrote.

Without congressional action, families that rely on ACA premium tax credits are expected to face steep spikes in insurance premiums, and millions could lose coverage entirely because it will no longer be affordable.

The letter was led by Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.), Jen Kiggans (R-Va.), Juan Ciscomani (R-Ariz.), and Adam Gray (D-Calif.). Other signatories include Maggie Goodlander (D-N.H.), Jeff Van Drew (R-N.J.), Susie Lee (D-Nev.), Don Bacon (R-Neb.), Ed Case (D-Hawaii), Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.), Greg Landsman (D-Ohio), Jeff Hurd (R-Colo.), Darren Soto (D-Fla.), Rob Bresnahan Jr. (R-Pa.), Tom Barrett (R-Mich.), Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.), Tom Kean Jr. (R-N.J.), Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.), Ryan Mackenzie (R-Pa.), Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), Monica De La Cruz (R-Texas), George Whitesides (D-Calif.), Maria Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.), Vicente Gonzalez (D-Texas), Donald Davis (D-N.C.), Scott Peters (D-Calif.), Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.), Josh Riley (D-N.Y.), Laura Gillen (D-N.Y.), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.), Carlos Gimenez (R-Fla.), and Emilia Sykes (D-Ohio).
