Blood donors at Hunterdon Medical Center offered free ski, snowboard rental in January
RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Amid a national blood shortage, Hunterdon Medical Center is urging community members to donate blood this month, with a local business offering an incentive to encourage participation.
Pelican Ski & Snowboard Shop in Whitehouse Station is partnering with the hospital to offer a free daily ski or snowboard rental to individuals who donate blood at Hunterdon Medical Center during January. Donors who give blood between Jan. 1 and Jan. 31 will receive a donation letter from the hospital that can be presented at Pelican Ski & Snowboard Shop for a free rental, valued at $39, for any day during the season.
Hospital officials said the Blood Bank at Hunterdon Medical Center is in critical need of donors, noting that all blood collected at the facility is used for patients treated at the hospital.
To be eligible to donate, individuals must be at least 17 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health.
“We are looking for donors of all blood types,” said Cathy Conroy, blood donor recruiter at Hunterdon Medical Center. “Our donors are all special people who give blood only to help others in need. It isn’t every day you can save someone’s life. Most of us can give this gift and keep giving it regularly.”
Appointments to donate blood can be scheduled by calling Hunterdon Medical Center’s Blood Donor Recruiter at 908-788-6405 or by emailing cconroy@hhsnj.org.
