Boonton Township opens new municipal building, police headquarters on New Year’s Eve
BOONTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Boonton Township marked the end of the year by officially opening its newly renovated municipal building and police headquarters during a ribbon-cutting and plaque-unveiling ceremony held on New Year’s Eve.
Morris County Commissioners Stephen Shaw, Douglas Cabana and John Krickus joined Morris County Sheriff James Gannon, Sen. Anthony Bucco, Assemblywoman Aura Dunn and township officials for the event, which celebrated the completion of a project four years in the making.
The project involved extensive renovations to the township’s original municipal building, formerly the Powerville School, which has served the community in various capacities for nearly a century. Township officials said the upgrades addressed aging infrastructure, improved safety features, enhanced accessibility for seniors and residents with disabilities, and created a modern police headquarters that meets current law enforcement standards.
“I want to thank the many people who made this day possible, including the township committee, our staff, our professionals and our construction partner, AM Higley,” Mayor Brian Honan said. “Their dedication and collaboration are reflected in every detail of this facility.”
Honan also praised the township’s police department, calling the new headquarters “a symbol of our support for the officers who serve and protect our community every day.”
An official building dedication ceremony is planned for the spring, township officials said.
