Budd Lake man arrested for DWI after car overturns

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) -A Budd Lake man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after his car overturned in Mount Olive Township, according to police.

On Nov. 9, at 11:14 p.m., police responded to a report of a vehicle overturned off the roadway and into the woods on Elias Drive. Upon arrival, they found the driver, identified as Anupam Bansal, 40, of Budd Lake, the sole occupant of the vehicle, police said.

Bansal was able to exit the vehicle unassisted and was unharmed in the crash. However, while speaking with Bansal, the officer allegedly detected the odor of alcohol and observed signs of impairment. When asked to perform field sobriety tests, Bansal refused and was subsequently arrested, police said.

Bansal was transported to police headquarters, where he also refused to submit to chemical breath testing. As a result, he was charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI), refusal to submit to breath testing, reckless driving, careless driving, uninsured motorist, failure to maintain lane, failure to report an accident, unregistered motor vehicle, and improper parking, police said.

Bansal was released to a sober driver and is pending a court appearance.
