Commissioner Zach Rich highlights annual New Jersey Makers Day at Hunterdon County Library’s Main Branch
RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Hunterdon County Commissioner Zach Rich Saturday attended the New Jersey Makers Day celebration at the Main Branch Library on Route 12 in Raritan Township.
The event, held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., featured a full day of exhibits, demonstrations, and hands-on activities for visitors. Registration was not required, and the event was free to all.
“New Jersey Makers Day is a fun way for libraries to highlight STEM learning and enhance community engagement through hands-on experiences. Library Director James Keehbler and his staff always do an amazing job promoting activities and programs that inspire residents and visitors alike, using the state-of-the-art Makerspace located at our Headquarters Library,” Rich said.
This year marks the 11th anniversary of the New Jersey Makers Day initiative, an all-ages event connecting individuals with libraries, local schools, small businesses, and independent makerspaces that support a wide range of learning.
Director of the Hunterdon County Library, James Keehbler, stated, “Every year, New Jersey Makers Day is an inspiring community event that brings library staff, wonderful volunteers, local businesses, and residents together for a day of creativity, learning, and imagination at the library. It remains one of the highlights of the year for the Hunterdon County Library.”
The idea for New Jersey Makers Day began in 2014 with an initial grant from LibraryLinkNJ. The goal was to enhance community engagement and foster connections among New Jersey residents by collaborating with libraries, museums, small businesses, and others to promote and explore new opportunities for entrepreneurship, innovation, and interactive experiences.
The Hunterdon County Main Branch Library underwent a complete renovation in the spring of 2023, which included a newly updated computer training lab, a redesigned Adult Services area, two collaborative Small Group Study rooms, a Quiet Study space with high-speed internet, a Teen meeting space, and a redesigned Children’s play-zone complete with interactive exhibits.
