Congressman Kean secures 8 priorities in the Water Resources and Development Act of 2024
3 Priorities Included are based in New Jersey's 7th Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) Wednesday voted yes for the Water Resources and Development Act of 2024 at the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Markup.
The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee passed the Water Resources and Development Act of 2024. Included in this package are 8 priorities requested by Congressman Kean.
Every two years, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee considers the Water Resources Development Act reauthorization, a bipartisan bill that includes United States Army Corps of Engineers water resources projects of national, regional, and local significance.
“Meeting the water resources needs in communities across the country is vital to our security, safety and economic stability,” Kean said. “I am pleased to see that included in this year’s WRDA package are eight priorities that I requested for the committee to consider. These improvements will boost our water infrastructure, grow our economy, and protect our communities from flooding. As a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I will continue to advocate for further investments in critical infrastructure projects that benefit our communities so we can continue to grow the economy, protect communities, and create jobs.”
Three local priorities requested by Congressman Kean include:
- A new feasibility study for flood risk management for the Township of Berkeley Heights, Borough of New Providence, and City of Summit, New Jersey
- Report language expediting completion of:
- A General Reevaluation Report (GRR) for the Green Brook Sub-Basin Flood Control Project, Middlesex, Somerset, and Union Counties, NJ
- The Rahway River Flood Mitigation feasibility study
- Expands the New York/New Jersey Harbor and Tributaries Study by authorizing the Crops and relevant non-Federal interests to undertake smaller projects within the project scope if deemed appropriate and in the Federal interests.
Congressman Kean currently serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
