Crews battle overnight commercial fire in Somerset County industrial complex

BERNARDSVILLE, N.J. (Somerset County) — Firefighters and first responders from Bernardsville and surrounding communities spent several hours battling a commercial structure fire late Saturday night in the Quarry Industrial Complex, officials said.

Bernardsville Fire Company No. 1 and the Bernardsville First Aid Squad were dispatched at about 11:30 p.m. to Rip Rap Road for a reported commercial fire. Chief 22 arrived to find a fully involved commercial building, with flames extending to multiple containers and trucks on the property.

A first alarm was transmitted, along with the activation of a water tanker task force and a full hazardous materials response. Officials said the fire was complicated by below-zero temperatures, which created challenging conditions for crews operating on the scene.

To address the extreme cold, salt trucks were brought in to treat icy surfaces, and warming buses were made available to provide relief for firefighters and emergency personnel during the extended operation.

Fire crews worked for approximately five hours before the scene was brought under control and cleared. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was not immediately released.
