Día de los Muertos celebration set for Oct. 23 in Washington Borough

WASHINGTON BOROUGH, N.J. (Warren County) — The Washington Business Improvement District (BID) will host a free community Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Veterans Park in downtown Washington Borough.

The event will honor the rich Mexican tradition of celebrating loved ones who have passed away, blending music, art, and remembrance in a vibrant, family-friendly atmosphere.

Attendees can enjoy a traditional mariachi band, sugar skull face painting, and a variety of local vendors. Guests will also have the opportunity to send messages to deceased loved ones by placing written notes in a fire pit, a symbolic gesture of remembrance and connection.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together to celebrate culture, art, and family while honoring those we’ve lost,” organizers said.

The event is free to attend and will take place rain or shine.
