Dog fatally shot in Sussex County, state police say

WANTAGE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — A dog was fatally shot last week in Sussex County, prompting an investigation by the New Jersey State Police, according to a department spokesman.

Trooper II Christopher Postorino said troopers responded around 3:09 p.m. on Nov. 27 to a report of a shooting near a residence on Mudtown Road in Wantage Township. When they arrived, troopers found that a dog had suffered a gunshot wound.

The animal was taken to a local veterinary facility, where it later died from its injuries, Postorino said. No other injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation, and no additional information is available, according to State Police.
