Dog’s remains found in dog food bag on I-287 in Somerset County; state police seek information

BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – The New Jersey State Police is seeking the public’s assistance in an animal cruelty investigation that occurred on I-287 North, near milepost 25 in Bernards Township.

On April 16, at approximately 10:00 a.m., troopers responded to a report of a suspicious package located on the right shoulder of Interstate 287, state police said.

Upon arrival, troopers discovered a large green “Retriever” brand dog food bag containing the remains of a deceased black canine. Detectives believe the bag was discarded sometime between 10:00 p.m. on April 15 and 10:00 a.m. on April 16, state police said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or events leading up to it is urged to contact the Troop “B” Somerville Criminal Investigation Office at 908-725-0107. Anonymous tips are welcome.
