Driver charged in Route 57 hit-and-run crash in Warren County

LOPATCONG TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — A truck driver has been identified and charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that occurred on June 12, in Lopatcong Township, authorities announced Sunday, July 20.

According to the Lopatcong Police Department, officers responded at approximately 4:43 p.m. to the intersection of Route 57 and County Road 519, where a 2023 white Cascadia Freightliner truck with Illinois license plates allegedly ran a red light and struck a 2016 white Jeep Compass traveling northbound through a green light. The truck fled the scene without stopping, police said.

Following a month-long investigation, police identified the driver as Almaz Uulu Beishenbek, 39, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Beishenbek was operating the vehicle on behalf of Tornado Shipping Inc.

Beishenbek has been issued multiple traffic summonses, including leaving the scene of an accident, failure to observe a traffic signal, careless and reckless driving, and failure to report an accident. In addition, he has been criminally charged with assault by auto, a disorderly persons offense, for allegedly causing bodily injury during the crash.

Police credited witnesses who came forward to assist with the investigation.
