Driver charged with DWI following single-vehicle crash in Morris County

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Hudson County man was charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) following a crash in Washington Township Saturday night.

On May 3, around 10:00 p.m., police responded to a serious single-vehicle crash on King Highway. Officers found a heavily damaged vehicle disabled in the middle of the roadway, with the driver, only identified as a 20-year-old from Bayonne, found nearby, police said.

Further investigation revealed the driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle, which had been traveling north on King Highway when he lost control. The vehicle struck several stationary objects off the northbound shoulder, became airborne, rotated, and eventually came to a stop in the middle of the road, police said.

It was determined that the driver was allegedly operating the vehicle while impaired, and he was subsequently charged with DWI, police said.

The Long Valley First Aid Squad transported the driver to the hospital for treatment, police said.
