Driver in critical condition after SUV hits business sign in Somerset County

BRIDGEWATER TONWSHIP, N.J. (Somerset County) — A 72-year-old West Orange man remains in critical condition after his SUV crashed into a large business sign along Union Avenue in Bridgewater Township on Thursday afternoon, according to police.

Police said officers responded around 3:23 p.m. Dec. 11 to the area of 477 Union Avenue (Route 28) for a report of a single-vehicle crash. When they arrived, they found a 2017 Lincoln MKC that had collided with a large sign on the property.

The driver, identified as Harrichan Ramroop, was discovered unconscious and not breathing inside the vehicle, police said. Officers began CPR before paramedics arrived. Ramroop was taken to RWJ University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he remains in critical condition.

A preliminary investigation indicates Ramroop was driving east on Union Avenue when his vehicle drifted left, crossed into the oncoming lane, left the roadway and struck the sign, police said. The cause of the vehicle leaving the roadway remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bridgewater Police Department at 908-722-4111, ext. 4186.
