Elizabethtown Gas investigates widespread gas odors in northern New Jersey, source still unidentified

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – Elizabethtown Gas has reported that approximately 120 investigations were conducted on Monday across multiple counties in northern New Jersey in response to widespread natural gas odors, according to Hackettstown police.

No source has been located as of Monday. The company continues to investigate gas odor reports as they come in, police said.

Residents are reminded to report any outdoor gas odors directly to Elizabethtown Gas at 1-800-492-4009, be alert for any indoor odors, and call 9-1-1 if they detect an emergency situation, police said.

Hackettstown police issued an alert shortly before 10:00 a.m. on Monday stating that they and the fire department were aware of widespread gas odors and were monitoring reports from surrounding municipalities and counties.
