Emergency bridge repairs to close lanes on I-78 west in Hunterdon County

CLINTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Motorists traveling on Interstate 78 westbound in Hunterdon County should expect delays Monday evening as emergency repairs are made to a bridge over the South Branch of the Raritan River.

According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation, two westbound lanes on I-78 are scheduled to close at approximately 5:30 p.m. after Exit 17 for Route 31 in Clinton to allow crews to perform emergency joint repairs on the bridge.

The lane closures are expected to remain in place through the evening rush hour, with repairs anticipated to be completed before Tuesday morning’s commute.

Drivers are advised to use caution, reduce speed and plan for heavy congestion in the area.

The work zone is located west of Exit 17, which serves Clinton, Flemington and Washington.

NJDOT officials noted that the timing of the repairs could change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Motorists are encouraged to check 511NJ.org for real-time traffic conditions and construction updates.
