Fire forces Sussex County bagel shop to temporarily close
FRANKFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Firehouse Bagel in Sussex County is temporarily closed after a fire Friday night.
On June 14, at 9:59 p.m., Frankford Township Fire Department (FTFD) was dispatched to Firehouse Bagel, located at 332 Route 206, in Frankford Township for smoke coming from the building, authorities said.
Shortly after dispatch, the Sussex County Sheriffs 911 Center advised fire crews that they were receiving multiple calls and upgraded the call to our first-alarm structure fire assignment, officials said.
A FTFD Safety Officer arrived on scene and confirmed a working structure fire with heavy smoke from the rear of the building, as will as fire from the eaves of the roof. Upon confirmation of the working fire, it was upgraded to a second-alarm assignment, authorities said.
A fire crew stretched an inch and three quarter attack line and forced the door to the restaurant. Crews then located the bulk of the fire and knocked it down shortly after arrival. Multiple units operated for just over two hours to overhaul the fire and clear smoke from the building. Units were back in service shortly after midnight, officials said.
There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Jeffrey Lebron.
“Thank you all so much for the love. We are blessed to be a part of this community and really appreciate everyone’s concern. The great news is that no one was hurt and all of our staff is safe and well. Our kitchen however will need to be remodeled. We will do it as quickly as possible so that we can once again be serving our beloved community,” Firehouse Bagel said on Facebook.
