First responders aid horse unable to stand in Hunterdon County
EAST AMWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Emergency responders assisted in the rescue of a horse Wednesday evening after the animal became unable to stand on a snow-covered incline in East Amwell Township.
The Amwell Valley Fire Company was dispatched at about 7:46 p.m. to the 100 block of Rosemont Ringoes Road for a report of a large animal rescue involving a horse. Firefighters, rescue personnel and the family’s veterinarian responded to the scene.
Crews arrived to find the horse lying on its side on a snowy slope and unable to get up. Working together, responders used lifting straps and manual effort to carefully move the animal up the incline.
After being down for more than 30 minutes, the horse was repositioned and gently rolled onto its opposite side. Following several minutes and multiple attempts, the horse was able to stand on its own.
The animal was then safely led back into its barn with assistance from the New Jersey State Police and the owner.
