First responders remove animals after trailer overturns, crashes into Hunterdon County barn
READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – First responders removed several animals after trailer overturned and crashed into a barn in Hunterdon County on Monday morning.
The crash happened at around 7:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Stanton Road (County Route 629) in Readington Township, officials said.
According to officials, a trailer from an 18-wheeler broke free from the tractor, overturned and struck the barn.
Numerous animals were inside and crews worked to remove chickens, goats, and other birds from the barn to a safe location and outside of a potential collapse zone, officials said.
Superior Towing responded and performed an exhaustive operation of removing the trailer from the compromised barn. The barn was later demolished due to the compromised structural integrity of the building, police said.
Stanton Road was closed for approximately 9 hours as a result of this crash, police said.
The driver of the truck was uninjured and did not receive any summonses The initial reports indicate that the crash was likely due to an equipment failure, however, the crash remains under investigation, police said.
Whitehouse Rescue, Readington Township Police, Superior Towing, Readington Township OEM, Hunterdon County OEM and representatives from the Hunterdon County Technical Rescue Task Force assisted at the scene.
