E. coli O145 is a Shiga toxin-producing E. coli that can cause severe stomach cramps, diarrhea that may be bloody and vomiting. Most healthy people recover within a week, but some infections can lead to hemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious complication that particularly affects young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.
Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur said it is working with regulatory authorities and its customers regarding the recall.
