Fugitive extradited from Mexico to New Jersey to face Morris County child sexual assault charge
MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — A fugitive charged more than a decade ago with sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl in Morris County has been extradited from Mexico and returned to New Jersey, according to the FBI’s Newark Field Office.
Adrian Bautista was escorted by FBI Newark from Mexico to New Jersey on Friday, Aug. 21, following his extradition to the United States.
Bautista was charged by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office in 2013 with first-degree aggravated sexual assault against a 5-year-old girl, according to the FBI. Authorities said he fled New Jersey for New York and later Mexico.
Mexican authorities arrested Bautista in Mexico City on Oct. 31, 2025, following a U.S. extradition request. The FBI said Mexico’s Fiscalía General de la República-Agencia de Investigación Criminal, working with INTERPOL, took him into custody without incident.
Bautista’s return to the United States was funded through the federal government’s “Project Welcome Home,” which assists in returning state and local fugitives to the United States to face charges.
FBI Newark thanked its state and international law enforcement partners, including the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and Mexican authorities, particularly AIC-INTERPOL, for their assistance.
