Hackettstown BID launches 2026 Halloween Scarecrow Selfie Contest

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — The Hackettstown Business Improvement District (BID) has launched its 2026 Halloween Scarecrow Selfie Contest, inviting the public to explore downtown businesses, take photos with decorated scarecrows and compete for a $50 prize.

The contest, which began Saturday, Oct. 17, and runs through Sunday, Nov. 1, features scarecrows created by participating BID businesses. This year’s displays are inspired by America’s 250th anniversary, incorporating patriotic themes into the annual Halloween tradition.

Participants can find eligible scarecrow locations using an interactive map available on the Hackettstown BID’s homepage or calendar page.

To enter, participants must visit one or more participating scarecrows, take a selfie and share the photo on Facebook or Instagram. Each post must include the hashtag #HKTWNscarecrow2026 and tag the Hackettstown BID.

Instagram accounts must be public, or individual Facebook posts must be set to public, for entries to qualify.

There is no limit to the number of entries. Participants may submit different selfies with any or all of the eligible scarecrows on Facebook, Instagram or both throughout the contest period.

The winning entry will be determined by the number of likes received on social media. Likes will be counted at noon Thursday, Nov. 5, with all likes received before that deadline included in the final tally.

The participant whose selfie receives the most likes will win $50 in BID Bucks, which can be spent at participating Hackettstown BID businesses.

The contest is designed to encourage visitors to explore downtown Hackettstown, view the creative scarecrow displays and support local businesses during the Halloween season.
