Hanover Wind Symphony trumpeters to perform at 9/11 commemoration in Morris Township
MORRIS TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Five trumpeters from the Hanover Wind Symphony will perform Wednesday, Sept. 9, during a special commemoration marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The “9/11: We Remember 25 Years” ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Ginty Field, 50 Woodland Ave. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved across the street to the Morris Township Municipal Building.
The ceremony will include opening remarks, a presentation of colors by the police honor guard, the national anthem, remarks from local officials, a wreath-laying ceremony, musical tributes and a moment of silence.
Five trumpeters with the Hanover Wind Symphony — Len Stern of Kinnelon, Mike Olson of Dover, Mike Palma of Pine Brook, Chris Christine of Robbinsville and Tom McCauley of Englewood — will perform during the commemoration.
The program will also feature Dr. Peter Killeen, founder of Operation Longevity, and a performance of “Taps” by Larry Schillings as part of Bugles Across America.
The ceremony will conclude with a tree dedication and a closing performance by the Hanover Wind Symphony.
The event is sponsored by the Township of Morris and the Town of Morristown.
