Heinz debuts ‘Leftover Gravy’ condiment for day-after Thanksgiving sandwiches

Heinz, the global condiment giant and the leading gravy brand in the United States, is shifting its holiday spotlight to the day after Thanksgiving with the launch of its first-ever squeezable HEINZ Leftover Gravy.

The new product, a squeezable bottle of HEINZ Homestyle Turkey Gravy, is designed specifically for the post-holiday ritual of leftover sandwiches — a tradition embraced by 94 percent of Americans, according to the brand. Nearly half of those surveyed said gravy is the essential ingredient for the perfect next-day creation.

Inspired by the “Moist Maker,” the now-viral leftover sandwich made famous by a 1990s sitcom, Heinz says the new release aims to give home cooks an easy way to replicate the beloved gravy-soaked middle slice of bread.

“While HEINZ Gravy has always been a fan favorite on the Thanksgiving table, we decided to focus our attention on the day after ritual—because we all know leftovers are the best part and our unmistakably rich and smooth gravy makes them that much better,” said Jamie Mack, associate director of brand communications for Heinz U.S. “A social media favorite among millennial sitcom-lovers, the Moist Maker epitomized an obsession with holiday food crafted with care and detail. Now, HEINZ is celebrating the fans who share an irrational love of the nostalgic sandwich by providing the key to a delicious day-after sandwich: HEINZ Leftover Gravy.”

Heinz says the launch comes at a time when millennial hosts are increasingly redefining holiday traditions and placing more emphasis on multi-day celebrations. The company is encouraging shoppers to grab a jar of gravy for the main feast along with the new condiment for the leftovers.

Beginning today, shoppers can order a 12-ounce jar of HEINZ Homestyle Turkey Gravy on Walmart.com and receive a limited-edition HEINZ Leftover Gravy Kit while supplies last. The kit includes the squeezable bottle and a recipe card for what Heinz calls the “Ultimate Thanksgiving Leftovers Sandwich.”
