CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A 40-year-old man was injured Monday after running from a black bear while hiking near Cushetunk Mountain at Round Valley Recreation Area in Clinton Township, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
State Park Police responded to the recreation area after receiving a report that the hiker had encountered a black bear while walking toward Cushetunk Mountain.
According to the DEP, the man ran after seeing the bear, tripped and suffered cuts from brush and other vegetation. Officials said there was no physical contact between the bear and the hiker.
The hiker requested transportation to Hunterdon Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
