Hudson Farm Club to host wine celebration benefiting Project Self-Sufficiency

NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — The Hudson Farm Club will host a special evening of wine, food and entertainment later this month to benefit Project Self-Sufficiency, marking a local celebration of the internationally recognized “Open That Bottle Night.”

The event is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m. and will take place at the Hudson Farm Club in Andover. Organizers said the evening will feature fine wines, food, live music by the jazz ensemble Meant to Be, entertainment by magician Michael Chaut of Magical Nights, and an auction hosted by Ted Tafaro.

Guests are also encouraged to bring a bottle of wine with a personal story to share, a tradition central to Open That Bottle Night, which was conceived more than 20 years ago by former Wall Street Journal “Tastings” columnists John Brecher and Dorothy Gaiter. The event is now celebrated worldwide, including in locations as distant as Antarctica and Hawaii.

“Open That Bottle Night is not just a celebration of our fine wine; it’s a toast to the spirit of resilience and community in Sussex County,” said Project Self-Sufficiency board member and event organizer Kathy Esposito. “At Project Self-Sufficiency, we believe in opening doors and extending our hand. This event is a reminder that sometimes the best way to savor life is by uncorking the moments that bring us together. Cheers to shared stories, shared bottles, and the shared journey toward self-sufficiency!”

“Open That Bottle Night is a significant component of our annual campaign, and one whose message reminds us that we need not wait for a special occasion to celebrate with family and friends,” said Deborah Berry-Toon, executive director of Project Self-Sufficiency. “We are grateful to the members of the Hudson Farm Club for their extraordinary hospitality.”

The event will be hosted by Lou and Kathy Esposito, Blake and Cathy Ellman, and Rich and Sheryl Hoer.

The Hudson Farm Club is located on a 3,800-acre private preserve originally owned by railroad magnate John P. McRoy. The property was later donated in 1920 to The Hudson Guild, a New York City-based charitable organization.

Sponsorship opportunities are available at multiple levels, ranging from $500 for individual tickets to $10,000 for the “Oenophile” level. Tickets and additional information are available at www.projectselfsufficiency.org/open-that-bottle-night or by calling 973-940-3500.
