I-287 northbound truck rest area to remain closed this week in Morris County
Closure needed to continue work at NJDOT Safety Service Patrol area
HARDING TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – The I-287 northbound truck rest area is scheduled to remain closed this week to continue concrete work at the NJDOT Safety Service Patrol (SSP) parking lot which is part of the rest area in Harding Township.
The truck rest area on I-287 northbound near mile post 32.4, about 1.5 miles before Exit 33 to Harter Road, will remain closed this week until 4:00 p.m. Friday, August 23 when it will reopen. If work is completed earlier, the truck rest stop will reopen sooner.
The rest area was closed on Tuesday, August 13 for concrete curb and sidewalk repairs, which are continuing this week.
The SSP is a free service that assists motorists whose vehicles have become disabled as a result of a crash, a mechanical failure or other cause, and provides safety for emergency responders. SSP vehicles include mounted Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) advising motorists to Slow Down and Move Over in support of the Move Over Law.
They patrol 225 linear miles of interstate and state highways throughout New Jersey, extending to over 394 miles during the winter season. This highly visible and successful program assists nearly 70,000 customers annually.
In addition to Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) funding, GEICO Insurance sponsors NJDOT’s Safety Service Patrol Program as part of a public-private partnership.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website for construction updates and real-time travel information.
