I-80 closure got you stuck? Morris County ice cream shop offering ‘sinkhole sundae’ to fill the gap
BUDD LAKE, NJ (Morris County) – The recent sinkhole on I-80 in Wharton Borough may have caused a detour in drivers’ plans, but Das’ Creamery in Budd Lake has found a sweet way to turn the situation around. Introducing the Sinkhole Sundae, a dessert so indulgent it might just fill the crater—one bite at a time.
The Sinkhole Sundae features a mouth-watering combination of chocolate cake crunchies, creamy vanilla ice cream, warm fudge, and more cake crunchies, all served in a construction cup. The best part? It’s a dessert that could make even the most frustrating detours feel like a piece of cake—literally!
One Facebook poster shared their take on the sweet treat: “Gotta have a sense of humor about this stuff! And really, doesn’t ice cream just make all life’s aggravations just a little bit better? Looks delicious!!”
According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), I-80 eastbound remains closed and detoured at Exit 34. The department is continuing its assessment of the sinkhole while developing an appropriate design and repair. Early indications are that the repair will take a minimum of several weeks. All work remains weather dependent, making it difficult to determine a precise timeline for completion. Crews are working 24 hours a day to complete these repairs as safely and efficiently as possible.
While drivers wait for the road to be repaired, Das’ Creamery is providing a delicious way to cope with the detours. The Sinkhole Sundae is the perfect solution for anyone whose plans have been interrupted by roadwork. With a little humor and a lot of fudge, it’s a reminder that sometimes, the best way to deal with life’s little potholes is to dig into something sweet.
Hurry down to Das’ Creamery, with two locations: The Shoppes at Village Green, 100 US-46, Budd Lake, and Morris Marketplace, 191 E Hanover Ave, Morristown.
