I-80 westbound Exit 30 ramp to Howard Boulevard to close for two weeks starting Oct. 31
MOUNT ARLINGTON BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — The Exit 30 ramp from Interstate 80 westbound to Howard Boulevard in Mount Arlington will close for about two weeks beginning Friday night, Oct. 31, as part of an ongoing bridge replacement project, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
The closure will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, and is scheduled to remain in effect until 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14. The detour is necessary to allow for ramp reconstruction and drainage improvements.
During the closure, motorists traveling on I-80 westbound who wish to reach Howard Boulevard or Mount Arlington will be directed to continue westbound and take Exit 27A for Route 206 south toward Somerville. Drivers should then stay right to take the ramp to I-80 eastbound and use Exit 30 to reach Howard Boulevard.
The work is part of a $65.4 million federally funded project to replace the I-80 eastbound and westbound bridges over Howard Boulevard/County Route 516, which are in poor condition. The project will raise bridge clearances, widen shoulders, and lengthen acceleration and deceleration lanes on I-80. Ramps to and from Howard Boulevard will also be widened, and the Howard Boulevard intersection will be reconfigured to improve traffic flow.
Additional improvements include new traffic signals and lighting, ADA-compliant sidewalks and crosswalks, and extended walkways connecting to the Mount Arlington Train Station to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety.
The project is expected to be completed by summer 2027.
