I-80 westbound Exit 35A in Wharton to close overnight Friday for drainage repairs

WHARTON BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — A westbound exit ramp on Interstate 80 in Wharton Borough will be closed overnight Friday into Saturday for drainage repairs, the New Jersey Department of Transportation announced.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, through 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, I-80 westbound Exit 35A/Dover/U Turn to Mount Hope Avenue (County Route 661 southbound) will be closed and detoured, officials said.

The closure is necessary to repair multiple drainage basins near the ramp. A posted detour will direct westbound motorists to Exit 34B for Route 15 North, where they will be guided to make a U-turn at Pondview Drive, return on Route 15 southbound, and access I-80 eastbound before exiting again at Mount Hope/Dover.

The work is part of a $15.7 million state-funded maintenance project to repair stormwater facilities at locations across Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Union and Warren counties, according to NJDOT.

Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and check 511nj.org for real-time traffic updates.
