Juvenile seriously injured after being struck by pickup truck on Route 22 in Somerset County
BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Somerset County) — A juvenile was seriously injured after being struck by a pickup truck on Route 22 in Bridgewater Township Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
Bridgewater Township police responded at about 4:13 p.m. to Route 22 west near Commons Way for a report of a crash involving a Ford F-250 pickup truck and a juvenile pedestrian.
A preliminary investigation determined that the pickup truck was traveling west in the left lane of Route 22 when, about 100 feet west of the exit ramp from Commons Way, a juvenile male ran south across the highway directly in front of the truck, police said.
The juvenile was struck by the pickup truck and came to rest on the shoulder of Route 22 west.
He was airlifted by medical helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with serious injuries, according to police.
The crash remains under investigation by the Bridgewater Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
