Man, 63, found dead at Warren County park; police say no threat to public

PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. (Warren County) — A 63-year-old man was found dead Friday morning at Shappell Park in Phillipsburg, and authorities said the death does not appear to be suspicious.

Phillipsburg police said officers responded to the park at 7:49 a.m. Jan. 16, 2026, after receiving a report of an unresponsive person. Police said officers and medical professionals determined the individual was deceased at the scene.

The man’s identity was not released pending notification of next of kin, police said. Authorities said there is no threat to the public and the investigation remains ongoing.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family during this difficult time,” police said.
