Man arrested in Morris County sexual extortion investigation
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Randolph Township man has been arrested following an investigation into a reported sexual extortion case involving a Long Valley resident, police said on Tuesday.
The Washington Township Police Department said it recently received a report from a resident who alleged they were the victim of sexual extortion through social media messaging.
Authorities said the suspect threatened to distribute sexually explicit images of the victim to people known to them and attempted to coerce the victim into sending additional images.
The case was assigned to the department’s Detective Bureau, which conducted an investigation over several weeks before identifying and arresting an adult male from Randolph in connection with the incident.
Police said the suspect, whose name was not released, has been charged with cyber harassment, sexual extortion and invasion of privacy.
The individual was lodged at the Morris County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.
