Man charged after disturbance, drinking wine in Morris County ShopRite parking lot

HANOVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Dover man was charged after police said he was found drinking alcohol and causing a disturbance in the Hanover Township ShopRite parking lot on Nov. 22.

According to police, officers were called to the store for a report of an intoxicated man who was allegedly taking off his clothes in the parking lot. When officers arrived, they found Demetrius Chavis, 31, dressed but drinking a bottle of wine.

Police said ShopRite staff requested that Chavis be trespassed from the property because he was yelling and causing a disturbance.

Chavis was issued a complaint summons for violating a township ordinance prohibiting the possession and consumption of alcohol in the parking lot. He was allowed to leave the scene after being notified of his court date, police said.
