Man charged with DWI after Hunterdon County crash

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A Connecticut man was charged with driving while intoxicated after his vehicle left the roadway in Clinton Township, police said.

According to the Clinton Township Police Department, officers responded May 29 to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of East Main Street and Petticoat Lane.

A responding officer found a maroon Volkswagen off the roadway with its driver, Peter M. Hausherr, 63, of East Haven, Connecticut, standing outside the vehicle.

Police said Hausherr exhibited signs of impairment and was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests. According to authorities, he did not perform the tests as instructed and was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

The vehicle was impounded, and Hausherr was transported to police headquarters, where he agreed to provide breath samples for chemical testing.

Police said the test results indicated his blood alcohol concentration exceeded the legal limit.

Hausherr was issued summonses charging him with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, reckless driving and failure to observe traffic lanes.

After processing, he was released to the custody of a responsible adult pending a court appearance.
