MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Budd Lake man was charged with driving while intoxicated after his vehicle crashed into a snowbank early Saturday in Mount Olive Township, authorities said.
Police responded at about 1:08 a.m. Jan. 31 to a report of a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 206 and Main Street in the Flanders section of the township. A black Jeep was found with its passenger side lodged in a snowbank, police said.
The driver, identified as Ty J. Romeo, 27, of Budd Lake, showed signs of impairment, including the odor of an alcoholic beverage, authorities said. He was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety tests before being taken into custody.
Romeo was transported to police headquarters, where he refused to submit to a chemical breath test, police said.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to submit to chemical breath testing and failure to maintain lane. Romeo was released to a sober driver pending a future court appearance.
