Man charged with DWI following hit-and-run crash in Morris County

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Hackettstown man is facing multiple charges following a hit-and-run crash in Mount Olive Township.

On January 10, 2025, at around12:51 p.m., police responded to Winding Hill Drive after receiving a report of a hit-and-run motor vehicle crash, officals said.

The vehicle involved in the incident was described as a black Acura. The officer was able to locate the car parked at a residence on Winding Hill Drive, with the driver still inside, police said.

Upon contacting the driver, identified as Rakhit Shayan, 42, of Hackettstown, the officers allegedly detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and observed signs of impairment. Shayan was asked to exit the vehicle for field sobriety testing and was subsequently arrested, police said.

Shayan was charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI), reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, careless driving, failure to maintain lane, and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. He was released to a sober driver pending a court appearance, police said.
