Man charged with eluding after police pursuit in Somerset County
RARITAN BOROUGH, N.J. (Somerset County) — A 21-year-old Raritan man has been arrested and charged following a police pursuit earlier this month, authorities said.
Ahmad Wallace was taken into custody in connection with an eluding incident that occurred March 17, according to Raritan Borough Police Chief Thomas Fisher.
Police said the incident began around 9:20 p.m. when an officer observed a 2011 Honda Accord fail to signal a turn near the Stonebridge Apartment Complex on Route 202 North. The officer attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop near Route 202 North and Thompson Street by activating emergency lights.
Authorities said the driver failed to stop, prompting a pursuit. During the chase, officers learned the vehicle had been involved in prior eluding incidents in New Providence and Watchung. Police also determined Wallace had two outstanding warrants for second-degree eluding.
The pursuit continued through borough streets for about five minutes before the vehicle stopped on Del Rocco Court within the Stonebridge Apartment Complex. Wallace exited the vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident, police said.
Wallace has been charged with second-degree eluding and was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a Superior Court detention hearing.
