Man charged with leading police on chase reaching speeds over 100 mph in Morris County
DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Morris County man is facing several felony charges after authorities say he led police on a high speed in Denville Township early Thursday morning.
On Jan. 25, at 1:24 a.m., police observed a black Hyundai Tuscon make an abrupt lane change while traveling Route 10 East. The officer then attempted to close the distance with the vehicle, but the vehicle began to accelerate at a high rate of speed, police said.
Once the officer activated their overhead emergency lights and siren, the driver of the vehicle failed to stop and accelerated to speeds in excess of 100 mph, police siad.
After a brief chase, the officer was able to obtain the license plate of the suspect vehicle and immediately terminated the pursuit, police said.
Through a police investigation, it was determined that the driver of the vehicle was Anthony J Granados, 27, of Morristown and he ultimately surrendered himself to the Denville Township police, authorities said.
Granados was charged with eluding, and received motor vehicle summonses for reckless driving, careless driving, speeding, failure to signal, failure to yield, driving on marked lanes, and suspended registration, police said.
Granados was later released pending a court appearance, police said.
