Man facing additional charges in fatal shooting in Warren County

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – A Morris County man accused of fatally shooting 21-year-old Amanda Pulver in June was charged with additional crimes on Thursday, according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

Anthony J. Garvin, 34, of Netcong Borough now faces charges of third-degree Animal Cruelty, purposely causing the death of an animal, specifically by shooting the dog, two counts of fourth-degree aggravated assault, pointing a firearm at two victims, who are persons other than the previously identified victim, third-degree criminal mischief, purposely causing damage to property, specifically the home, second-degree burglary, and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, specifically by possessing a handgun without a permit.

Garvin was charged on June 27 with first-degree murder, specifically by shooting the victim, and second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, officials said.

On June 27, at around 8:19 a.m., police were notified of a shooting incident on Alphano Road in Independence Township near the Allamuchy Township border.

Police said that they were tracking the suspect, who was later identified as Garvin, and this was a targeted act.

People in the area were asked to shelter in place.

Garvin was located at around 11:30 a.m. in Pennsylvania and taken into custody, officials said.

Pulver was known to Garvin prior to the homicide, the prosecutor’s office said.

“This matter remains under investigation and additional charges maybe forthcoming as additional information is gathered,” the prosecutor’s office said.

The joint investigation was conducted by the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, Independence Township Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police and Wyomissing Police Township (PA), and the New Jersey State Police. The Warren County Tactical Team and New Jersey State Police assets from the Crime Scene Unit, Canine Unit, Emergency Response Bureau, and Aviation Bureau assisted.
