Man found sleeping in driver’s seat of vehicle arrested for DWI, open container of alcohol

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A man is facing several charges, including driving while intoxicated and possessing an open container of alcohol, after allegedly being found asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle, which was illegally parked in front of a driveway in Denville Township, according to police.

On Nov. 21, police responded to a 9-1-1 call at around 6:15 p.m. regarding an unresponsive male in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked illegally in front of 16 Second Avenue, police said.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the male, later identified as Edwin Sanchez-Laos, 42, of Rockaway Township asleep behind the wheel of the vehicle, which was blocking the driveway, police said.

After further investigation, police determined that Sanchez-Laos was under the influence of alcohol. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI). During the investigation, officers also discovered an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle, police said.

Sanchez-Laos was charged with DWI, reckless driving, open container of alcohol in vehicle, careless driving, failure to possess driving registration, failure to possess driving insurance card, improper parking in front of driveway, and delaying traffic. He was released pending a court appearance, police said.
