Man pleads guilty to eluding police in Sussex County

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man pleaded guilty to eluding police in Hamburg Borough, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray.

Peter Montanaro, 42, of Sussex pled guilty to third-degree eluding on Jan. 3 before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Murray said.

In pleading guilty, Montanaro admitted that in Hamburg Borough he did commit the offense of eluding while operating a motorcycle on a street or highway of this state, knowingly did flee or purposely attempt to elude a law enforcement officer, after having received a signal from the officer to bring the vehicle to a full stop, Murray said.

Montanaro is scheduled to be sentenced on March 8, Murray said.

Montanaro was represented by John M. Breslin, Esq., and the State was represented by Special Deputy Attorney General and Acting Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Brent M. Rafuse.
