Man sentenced for shoplifting, resisting arrest in Sussex County
NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Passaic County was sentenced for shoplifting and resisting arrest, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart.
Adam Abdelatif, 30, of Clifton was sentenced on June 2 before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Taggart said.
Abdelatif was sentenced to 180 days in Morris County Correctional Facility and 2 years probation. In addition to the standard conditions of probation, he must also complete 15 days of community service, submit a TASC evaluation and follow all recommendations, submit a DNA sample, not return to the Franklin Walmart and pay $280 in fines and fees.
Abdelatif pled guilty on April 5 to third-degree shoplifting and fourth-degree resisting arrest. In pleading guilty, he admitted to purposely taking various items totaling more than $500 but less than $75,000 from the Franklin Walmart. He also admitted to purposely fleeing to prevent a law enforcement officer from affecting an arrest.
At sentencing, Abdelatif was represented by Matthew W. Young, Esq., and the State was represented by Special Deputy Attorney General and Acting Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Jerome P. Neidhardt.
