Morris County leaders, educators host open house for new Career Training Center at CCM

RANDOLPH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Morris County officials, educators and community leaders gathered recently at the County College of Morris (CCM) to celebrate the opening of the new Career Training Center, a 46,350-square-foot facility that expands hands-on career and technical education opportunities for high school students throughout the county.

The event, hosted by the Morris County Board of County Commissioners in partnership with the Morris County Vocational School District (MCVSD) and CCM, showcased student talent and the center’s state-of-the-art instructional spaces. Members of the MCVSD string ensemble performed as guests arrived, while culinary arts students prepared hors d’oeuvres, refreshments and desserts. Student ambassadors led tours of classrooms designed for training in medical and dental assistance, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, supply chain management and other emerging fields.

MCVSD also announced that applications are now open for its share-time programs.

The program opened with remarks from MCVSD Superintendent Dr. Anita Champagne, followed by Commissioner John Krickus and CCM President Dr. Anthony Iacono. Several county and school officials attended, along with CCM trustees and local dignitaries.

“Together, the Vocational School District and CCM are giving students early access to the skills, certifications, degrees and hands-on training demanded by today’s leading industries. The centerpiece of this success is the Career Training Center, where we are standing tonight. This building welcomed its first students this fall, opening doors to many opportunities,” Krickus said.

The two-story Career Training Center opened in September and expands MCVSD’s capacity by several hundred high school students. The share-time model allows juniors and seniors to attend specialized technical training for half the school day, earning industry-recognized credentials and, in many cases, college credits.

“Share-time programs give students a meaningful advantage—hands-on learning, industry credentials and a clearer vision for their futures,” Champagne said. “Our Career Training Center stands as a promise to every Morris County student that their ambitions are welcome here, and that we are ready to help them pursue the careers and college pathways that inspire them.”

The application portal for 10th-grade students is open through Feb. 17, 2026. Program information is available at mcvts.org/mcvsd-programs/share-time-programs.

Dr. Iacono said the partnership between CCM and MCVSD continues to strengthen pathways from high school into high-demand fields.

“The partnership between CCM and Morris County Vocational School District presents incredible opportunities for high school students to earn college credits while preparing for in-demand careers,” he said. “Partnerships like this support individuals and employers throughout the region while simultaneously reducing college costs to parents.”

Local officials attending the open house included Chester Borough Mayor Janet Hoven, Denville Mayor Thomas Andes, Morris County Park Commissioners Douglas Gabel and Mohamed Seyam, and Morris County Ambassadors Henry Lee and Roberta Strater.

The Career Training Center is part of a broader hub of career and technical education on the CCM campus. Funded through $18.6 million from the Securing Our Children’s Future Bond Act and $8.2 million in county support, the facility sits next to CCM’s Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Center and the planned Entrepreneurship and Culinary Science Center.
