
Morris County man arrested after allegedly hitting officer with vehicle while fleeing traffic stop
DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Morris County man was arrested Sunday after allegedly hitting an officer with his vehicle while fleeing a traffic stop in Denville Township.
On Oct. 20, a Denville police officer conducted a traffic stop on Indian Road. During the stop, officers discovered that Liam Harrigan, 27, of Denville Township, had an active NCIC warrant out of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, police said.
When officers attempted to take him into custody, Harrigan fled the scene in his vehicle, striking a Denville police officer in the process. The officer sustained only minor injuries, according to police.
Shortly after the incident, the New Jersey State Police located Harrigan’s unoccupied vehicle on Interstate 80 eastbound in Fairfield Township. The Denville Police Detective Bureau then conducted further investigations, tracking Harrigan to a Costco in Wayne Township.
With assistance from the Wayne Police Department, Harrigan was apprehended and charged with eluding, obstruction, hindering, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, assault by auto, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of CDS, improper display/unclear plates, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, speeding, reckless driving, avoiding a traffic signal, careless driving, failure to yield, failure to report an accident, failure to maintain a lane, operation of a motor vehicle while in possession of narcotics, failure to signal, failure to possess a driver’s license and registration, failure to comply with the direction of an officer, failure to yield to a pedestrian, and disregard for a stop sign.
Following his arrest, Harrigan was lodged at the Morris County Correction Facility, where he awaits a future court date, police said.
