Morris County Sheriff’s Detective Lieutenant Tracy Medwin retires after more than two decades of service

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (Morris County) — Morris County Sheriff’s Office Detective Lieutenant Tracy Medwin has retired after more than 20 years of service, concluding a career marked by leadership, advancement and a lasting impact on the agency’s professionalism, officials said.

Medwin was hired by the Morris County Sheriff’s Office in December 2000 and graduated from the Morris County Police Academy in May 2001. She began her career in the Protective Services Division before transferring to the Administration Division’s Research and Planning Section in September 2004.

She was promoted to sergeant in June 2005 and served as accreditation manager, overseeing key administrative and compliance functions. Medwin continued her advancement with a promotion to corporal in April 2014, remaining in the Administration Division, Research and Planning Section.

Later that year, she was promoted again to sergeant and returned to the Protective Services Division, where she was assigned to the control desk and supervised multiple sections. In February 2019, she transferred to the Process Section of the Legal Services Division.

In November 2022, Medwin was promoted to detective lieutenant, assuming supervision of the Community Outreach and Planning Section of the Morris County Sheriff’s Office.

Throughout her career, Medwin played a central role in advancing professionalism within the Sheriff’s Office, including managing multiple successful reaccreditation efforts through executive programs administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. Officials cited her broad experience, adaptability and leadership as hallmarks of her service.

Reflecting on her career, Medwin said, “My career has been a wild ride to say the least and I am extremely grateful to raise anchor and set sail for my new adventure.”

Sheriff’s Office officials congratulated Medwin on her retirement and wished her continued success in the next chapter of her life.
