Morris County woman charged with DWI after being found unconscious in SUV, police say

BEDMINSTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Somerset County) — A Chester woman was charged with driving while intoxicated after allegedly being found unconscious behind the wheel of an SUV blocking a roadway late June 12, according to Peapack & Gladstone police.

A Peapack & Gladstone officer had just cleared a motor vehicle stop on Route 206 at about 11:53 p.m. when she spotted an SUV blocking Old Dutch Road East in Bedminster Township, police said. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer saw a woman unconscious in the driver’s seat.

After several moments, the woman awoke and appeared confused, police said. She was identified as Celia J. Peri, 23, of Chester.

The officer reported detecting the odor of alcohol inside the vehicle and saw several cans of High Noon Hard Seltzer on the passenger-side floor. Peri was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety tests.

Police said Peri was arrested after officers determined she was under the influence of alcohol. She was taken to police headquarters, where a breath test indicated her blood alcohol concentration was twice the legal limit.

Peri was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle. She was issued a court date and released to a responsible person.
