Morris County woman sues Little Falls, police department over release of unredacted video
LITTLE FALLS TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Passaic County) — A Mount Olive Township woman has filed a lawsuit against the Township of Little Falls, the Little Falls Police Department and others, alleging police released unredacted video footage that showed an unintended exposure of an intimate part of her body while she was in police custody.
The lawsuit, filed July 28 in New Jersey Superior Court in Passaic County, alleges the woman was arrested by Little Falls police on Aug. 30, 2025, and taken to police headquarters for processing and detention. Video recorded during that process captured an unintended exposure of her breast, according to the complaint.
According to the lawsuit, the Little Falls Police Department later received an Open Public Records Act request seeking the video. The complaint alleges the department released the footage without redacting the portion showing the woman’s exposed breast. The footage was subsequently posted and circulated online, according to the lawsuit.
The complaint alleges at least one online posting accumulated hundreds of thousands of views and that additional copies of the footage were republished. It also alleges at least one third-party uploader blurred the exposed portion of the video.
According to the lawsuit, the woman filed a citizen complaint with the Little Falls Police Department, prompting an Internal Affairs investigation. The complaint states the department sustained findings of neglect of duty and insubordination against the police department’s records clerk in connection with the release.
The lawsuit alleges the release and subsequent circulation of the footage caused the woman embarrassment, humiliation, emotional distress, damage to her reputation and loss of privacy.
The complaint includes claims alleging violations of rights under the New Jersey Constitution, invasion of privacy, violations related to the release of records under state law, negligence, negligent supervision and negligent training.
The woman is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, costs, attorney’s fees and other relief deemed appropriate by the court. She has also requested a jury trial.
Vincent A. Quatrone, business administrator for the Township of Little Falls, said, “At this time, the Township of Little Falls is unable to comment on pending litigation.”
Little Falls Police Lt. Ryan J. Hoyt also said, “The Township is aware of the lawsuit that has been filed. As this matter involves pending litigation, it would be inappropriate for the Township to comment on the specific allegations or circumstances at this time. The Township will address the matter through the appropriate legal process.”
The allegations are contained in a civil complaint and have not been proven in court.
